Dancing Queen? Perhaps!

Yes, our darling daughter started dance classes last night and it was oh too sweet!! Mimi, Taylor, and I went shopping Sunday afternoon and found a purple leotard with butterflies on it – it was the only one and it was her size! We also got her some ballet slippers that weren’t her size. If I’d taken the digital camera with me, I could’ve zoomed in and shown you the inch long piece of shoe protruding from her heel. As it was, I didn’t think to grab it so you have to make do with my phone camera. I promise to take the “real” camera to a future class.

At least two of her classmates are taking dance and Taylor had been asking for about a month so we decided to do it. We got to class last night and who should we see? Layla! One of her classmates! Here are a couple of pictures and I’ll try the “more” feature for the others. Oh, they start off with ballet, do tumbling and stage presence (introducing themselves) then tap.

In this picture, she’s the one on the 2nd row, furthest back (the only purple outfit in the class). The one to her right (in red) is also in her class at daycare so that was a very special treat!

They hadn’t started yet and the little girl whose head you see was an adventure to keep out of the pictures. She has an older sister in the class and actually joined in during the tap segment.

One of the dances they were learning – Taylor was doing great at following! I was really surprised.

And they all fall down asleep:

Then kick their legs in the air –

Actually, this was part of another thing they were doing. After the falling asleep thing, they got up stretching and yawning, it was sweet. I got to watch the whole thing through the door. Some of the pictures (after the “more” link) were taken in the mirror. She came out of class hyper as all get out and woke up this morning asking to go to dance class. I told her she had to go to school but Layla would be there and they could talk about dance class. She reluctantly agreed.

Oh! And her hair! At first she fussed at the idea of me putting her hair in a ponytail. I explained to her that if she was to be in dance class, she *had* to have her hair pulled back. Again, reluctantly agreed. Actually, since some of the girls have started playing beauty shop in the afternoon, she’s let me put her hair in pigtails. She wore her hair in pigtails to Atticus’ birthday party and didn’t pull them out! I was shocked.

Okay, less talk and more dance class pictures!

More sleeping princesses.

And now for the tumbling portion! The one below is Taylor. Her friend from daycare had already gone and was sitting by herself against the other wall. One by one, all the kids flipped and took their seat.

This was part of a song where your fingertips go down your legs and back up to your chin, nose, eyes, ears, etc. It was cute. I had to go with shots from the mirror so I wouldn’t be too obvious. 🙂 Taylor’s front and center on these and her daycare classmate is beside her in red.

The first performance is at the Pumpkin Patch – I have no details yet but trust that there will be pictures!
