Oktoberfest weekend!

And it was a blast! Our church had their annual Oktoberfest, by the way. There were bratwursts, hot dogs, kraut, german potato salad, inflatables, face painting, craft sales, a yard sale, AND a bake sale. I believe proceeds went to the youth and they did very well!

I had one person tell me Happy Anniversary. That was sweet. No, it’s not our anniversary anniversary… it was last year’s Oktoberfest that introduced us to Good Shepherd and a few months later, we started attending. We’ll be making our official “We want to join you” next weekend.

So Saturday was busy. I went a little early (not early by yard salers standards, but I digress) and perused the yard sale. Taylor picked out some books and a couple of dolls then noticed an inflatable was finally inflated and took off after that. I looked a little more but didn’t really see anything else I wanted. There was a set on gardening that I was mildly interested in but it was gone by the time the youth got to the point of “Fill up a bag for $5!”

Brian chaperoned kids jumping on the inflatables. I served tea for a little bit then watched Taylor play. Her favorite was the slide. Her shoes came off at the beginning and then she went everywhere sock-footed the rest of the day (10-2). Needless to say, her socks were nasty.

Sunday came. We got up… reluctantly. We were pooped and sore! I found it amusing that the sermon was on the commandment to keep the Sabbath holy…. rest, assemble with other Christians. “Do I have to go to church?” It was pointed out that in Old Testament times the penalty for not going to the assembly was death. The pastor looked at one of the ushers and said, “I’ll get with you after service on who to pay a visit.” :)  The biggest thing we got out of it is the day of rest. We really don’t and we’re planning on doing what we can to get there. As it was, we did go home, have lunch, then nap. I went to the grocery store by myself (actually that is somewhat peaceful… by myself). Taylor was awake by the time I got back. Brian took Taylor to the playground. I started laundry and got to relax and watch a couple episodes of a show I like and rarely get to watch. It was a pretty nice day. I look forward to doing it more frequently but a little different… as in going WITH Brian & Taylor to the playground!

Next week’s sermon should be fun… he’ll be on the commandment that tells you to honor your father and mother. And oh yeah, my parents will be in town. 🙂
