Lectures from a 5 yr old

I mentioned this in my twitter but I really want to blog it since twitters scroll off and this was too funny. 🙂

As you may know, we registered our baby girl for Kindergarten last night. As we pulled into the parking lot, she asked us, “Are you going to cry?” We both said, “Not right now.”

Later, while she was in the bath, she said, “Mama. I have to tell you something very important.” I say okay and she continues, “I know you want me to be a little kid but one day I’m going to be a big kid and I don’t want all this crying, okay?” What can I say but, “Yes ma’am.”

Another conversation we had after reading one night (last night?? argh my memory – and this is why we blog!). I was lying down, she was sitting up and did a sharp inhale, “Ya know what!” (I’m working on that… drives me crazy but that’s another story), “What?” “We could go shopping and get me the most. sparkliest. dress. ever.” (periods are an attempt to write her emphasis. What I have difficulty conveying are her facial expressions while she was saying this. Very dramatic). Oh, it’ll have yellow, gray, and brown polka dots and there will be sparkly clicky-clack shoes as well (the sparkliest ever, of course). Clicky-clack shoes are shoes that go “clicky-clack” as you walk on non-carpeted surfaces, by the way.

Ya know what Story – I told her (last night or night before) that she didn’t have to start everything with “Ya know what?” She said okay and I left to let her play. As I’m walking downstairs, she hollers, “Mama! Ya know what? Ya know what? Ya know what? Ya know what? Ya know what?” I yelled up, “Knock it off!” and she giggled then started singing, “Ya know what? Ya know what? Ya know what?”
The other thing I like to do to her in response to, “Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama” is “What?!” then as she’s talking, “Taylor, Taylor, Taylor, Taylor…” Most of the time she giggles.
