So we’re all better now. Sort of.

The AC got fixed (thank you Tom and Brian!!) and all was well. Until Friday. Brian has this set up where he can see the temperature at the house and inside the house on the computer and he noticed that, at about 2:30, it was 80-something degrees in the house. Now, I realize that some people keep their house warm. We are not those people. Our thermostat is currently around 75, so 80-something isn’t good!

We carpool. We do the math. Brian would get there, get started, have to stop and come get me. “Can you ask Holly if you can leave early?” I have a review coming up! I was on the brink of being fired just a month or so ago! Granted, I’m in good now and have been for some time, but it’s still very fresh in my mind. I tentatively ask, explain the situation, I get the okay and we talk briefly about our geek husbands.

We get home, he gets started, I go to the church and practice. I get Taylor and come home. What happened to the AC? Do ya know anyone who’d like a retriever mix dog? Yeah. Ginger happened to it. The control box that’s mounted on the side of the house was no longer mounted on the side of the house. I was supposed to cook dinner for us then head over to a candle party being thrown by our pastor’s wife. Instead, I help Brian figure out some wires. I’m in the garage, he’s outside at the unit, and Taylor is standing at the door. He yells to her, she yells to me, I yell to her, she yells to him. It worked nicely until a wasp showed up. No, she didn’t get stung again, but we had to revamp a little before we could continue.

We finish that and Taylor & I decide to have a bowl of cereal. It’s cold cereal, no cooking required, so it’s good in an 85 degree house. Brian’s still working on the AC so I take Taylor with me to the party (there’s a kid there her age… Sam. The one she says she’s going to marry).

Brian stays on the phone with his dad until it’s fixed and then he works out a plan to make sure Ginger can’t get in there. To quote Brian, “It’s a little trailer park’ish but it’ll work.” We have some iron gating (thank you previous owners) that was cutting the backyard in half and we were planning on taking it out. It’s out now. One piece on each side, tied together at the front and each piece tied to the bars on the garage window that’s directly behind the AC unit. If she tries to jump over them, she’ll get spiked. We do have to look at the ties, though, to make sure she’s not chewing on them. She’s chewed through a leash and a harness… I’m not taking anything for granted!

Meanwhile at the party. We’re inside, kids are outside and I hear a scream. I think, “That sounds familiar.” P. Dave is waving that she’s okay but she’s still screaming and it sounded a lot like the bee sting scream so I went anyway. Taylor has her first introduction to fire ants. Most of the bites were on her foot – cortisone, benadryl, we’re good.

The party was great, the AC is still working, Taylor had another run in with ants at church Wednesday night and now all bugs are bad. Even the ones dead and wadded up in tissue paper in the toilet. We sometimes have ant stomping parties now too. She enjoys those. 🙂 There are two spots we’re watching from this past episode, but we think she’ll be fine.

Oh, and my review went very well – I got a 3 out of 4 overall rating! She was especially impressed with the improvement after our last review (where I was almost fired). That review really did shock me. It was out of nowhere. But I did have lots of room for improvement and I improved. And Brian wouldn’t let me put “Thanks for keeping me!” in the comments section. Heehee. Pray for me – Holly’s on vacation next week which leaves me in charge.
