Mommy-Daughter weekend
Posted on October 6, 2008, 3:37 pm by ElizabethTaylor was sick again on Friday. We’re not sure if she had a bug or if she didn’t need the antibiotic Sunday’s doc gave her (they’re not kind to you if you don’t need them) or some combination of the two. Anyway, we quit giving her the antibiotic Friday and by Saturday evening, she was doing much better. Appetite’s still not back to normal but it’s significantly better!
So - I stayed home with her Friday. Then had a mommy-daughter day on Saturday while Brian went and watched college football with friends. She was playing on the computer. I was on my keyboard with the headphones on practicing for Sunday. At one point, I took the headphones off, sighed and said, “I don’t have an offertory for tomorrow and I don’t like anything in these books!” Taylor turns around and says, “Well mommy, just play Jesus Love Me.. or some other church songs!” It just so happens, I have an arrangement of Jesus Loves Me so I got it out and re-familiarized myself with it.
Sunday morning comes. In particular, the children’s sermon. Our pastor asks the kids, “How many of you know Jesus Loves Me?” Having already told Brian the story, he & I look at each other and chuckle. I told our pastor about it after the service and he laughed too - thought it was neat that it was as if we’d planned it that way. I love it when that happens and think it’s even neater that it happened through a 5 year old!
Sunday afternoon was fun as well. At least for me & Taylor. Brian wasn’t feeling well that morning then got worse, so he holed himself up in our room while Taylor & I were downstairs throwing a jewelry party. Taylor was excited to be my Junior Hostess. She wanted to pass out plates and she modeled some of the jewelry. There were two pieces she really really really wanted and was upset when I said, “Um. No.” For starters, it wasn’t appropriate for a 5 year old (a choker with large silver and black pearls and matching bracelet) and most importantly, it was too expensive to be play jewelry! As it is, she got a ring that we’ve lectured her on being sure to put where it belongs and not lose it. She’s also getting a little necklace that is much more appropriate for her.
This would be the downside to my getting more into jewelry - she sees me wearing it more and wants to do the same. I also realize that, after yesterday, she will want to come every time I throw one of these parties and if I go to someone else’s party, I won’t be able to tell her that that’s where I’m going or she’ll want to come as well!
And mommy-daughter time continues as Brian’s 3 year “no-sick-leave” record is broken by this bug. I get to take her to dance tonight. I’m looking forward to it, actually. The room they’re in now has windows you can peek in. It’s also a tougher class - she loves it and is one worn out little girly when it’s over!
