Dance Recital!

Taylor’s dance recital was this past Saturday night and both sets of grandparents came into town to see the show and what a show it was!! I was seriously considering sending Beverly’s a letter saying, “If you want to see how a show should be run, go see a Dale Serrano show!” There was a drumline opening that was awesome. When that was done, they lowered a video screen and showed clips from movies When that was over, the screen was raised and some kids danced. They left the stage and a curtain behind them was raised and the next group went! This was repeated a few times – sometimes they’d show a video highlighting movie scenes from whatever the next few groups were (Shirley Temple clips were played before Taylor’s group danced to “Good Ship Lollipop” for example) and sometimes it would be a small group of older kids dancing. Curtain is raised, little kids dance, curtain behind them is raised, more kids dance! There was very little time between each number and 2.5 hours FLEW. They had suggested that we attend an earlier performance so we could see the show from start to finish – next year, Taylor and I will be doing that. Brian can come too if he wants.

About 10 numbers before Taylor’s first number, Taylor and I practically ran to where her dressing room was (it wasn’t near our seats!). Potty break for girly first then dash to get dressed. The first picture I took, I’ll confess, was an afterthought when I saw another mom doing it. That’s why it’s blurry and I didn’t have time to get another shot of that one. They were lining up to go backstage, us moms ran back upstairs and grabbed some seats near a door. We got to watch 3-4 numbers before our kids came on. As soon as theirs ended, we mad-dashed back to the dressing room. We had 5 numbers to get Taylor dressed for her next one (that’s not long). My hands were shaking. I needed help with a bobby pin and got it instantly (parents were a lot nicer in this group, I noticed!). Taylor’s gloves were inside out and they were being called to line up – a parent helped me with one while I got the other.

Oh! You may notice a big bruise looking thing on her forehead… yes, that’s a bruise. Thursday morning, I dropped her off at daycare after her dentist appointment. As I was leaving in my car, I was watching for her to see if she was going to wave bye to me. I figured she’d gotten preoccupied with coloring and forgot when I saw one of the teachers flagging me down. I thought I’d forgotten something and turned around. Nope. She was running to the window to wave bye to me and fell – hit her head square in the middle of her forehead on a concrete wall. She had a HUGE goose egg. I sat with her there for a few minutes with the ice pack then had to leave for my own doctor appointment. She sat with her teacher and waved bye to me from that window instead. I called after my appointment was over and she was still fine – no complaints of headache, no throwing up, no behavior change, etc. so we figured she was fine. It’s now a small bruise at the top middle of her forehead. One of the docs here confirmed (yes Brian, I asked! :P ) that we were perfectly fine just observing and that the spot she hit was actually a good one, if there were such a thing, as it’s one of the strongest parts of the skull!

So – pictures.

Just before Bibbidy Boppidy Boo. They are Fairy Godmothers, NOT princesses. And those were the floppiest wands I’d ever seen! It was very cute.

She’s lined up to go do Good Ship Lollipop. I told her, “Taylor! Pose for me!” and she did.

Taylor and Cali after the show with their flowers and trophies. They walked on stage at the finale (few kids did that, surprisingly!) and Brian said that the look on Taylor’s face was awesome. She knew she was big time. :)

After recital – outside BJCC at the water fountains. Taylor freaked out mom when she ran to the fountain. I think mom thought she was going to jump in. :)

After recital, we headed back to the hotel where Tom and Janet were staying. We took over the lobby area and had dinner then Brian & Taylor went swimming. I think Tom & Janet joined them. I don’t know because the Georgia clan all said, “We’re pooped. We’re going home and going to bed.” (Hey! I had to get up at 5 and play for an 8 a.m. church service and it was already after 9 p.m. – Gimme a break! :P )

I’m calling this one “The Morning After” – she was – most definitely – pooped! Notice – she still has her pony tails in even.

Hey, love the sleeping one. I don’t know. there’s just something about that peaceful look. Also, the costumes were adorable. We also did Dale Serrano and it was great. Very organized.
