Taylor at the movies

I got tickets to a pre-screening of Ice Age: The Meltdown this evening (thanks Lauren!), and since Elizabeth was off at the symphony, I decided this was the perfect opportunity to take Taylor to her first movie at the theatre. I figured if she got bored or disruptive or cranky — you know, all the fun parts of having a three-year-old — I could bail out without losing the great investment a night at the theatre can be.

Got to the Rave theatre in Vestavia in plenty of time, so we took our place in line. Taylor amused herself with her favorite Strawberry Shortcake and Orange Blossom dolls until it was time to enter and claim our seats. Lauren went back out to meet other friends, and Taylor wanted to go, so the two of them trotted off to the lobby together. This surprised me. I think Lauren enjoyed it too. Lauren returned with popcorn to share with Kenny, which Taylor decided to claim as her own. Despite devouring a Happy Meal on the ride over, I saved their popcorn and got a small bag and a Sprite of our own (and suddenly, our free movie night became a $8.25 movie night).

The movie started, and she was very, very good. I guess it’s hard to be disruptive when you’re stuffing popcorn in your face the whole time. She got a little restless in the last 5 minutes of the movie, but did impressively well. With all that Sprite, she was pretty revved up all the way home and hyper even after that. After letting her play a little bit, we finally convinced her to lie down with Elizabeth in bed watching TV, which is where they are now. Yes, we’re putting her to bed at 10 p.m.

Had an early Pie Day last night with K&L because of symphony night and movie date tonight. The service at the Oxmoor Rd. Jim & Nick’s was far better than our last two pie days at other locations, but my string of Free Pie for Bad Service sadly ended at 2.

Tomorrow promises to be a nice day. We’ll head off to the zoo for a visit, enjoying as much of the weekend as we can before the rain shows up Sunday and Monday to drench the party. We’ll be enjoying our weekend – you go do the same.
